R.I.P. Foo Foo

Our beloved bunny passed away this Tuesday due to an accident.

I’m still not sure how to feel, but I feel like there is something is missing.

I’m thinking about getting another bunny. Not to replace her, but rather to honor her. I miss her a lot, and there was so much that I wanted to teach her, like sport hopping and possibly breeding her and showing her.

She completely made me forget chinchillas. I’ve been wanting to get more chinchillas, but I don’t really want any at all at this point. Just another bunny or 2.

I will be collecting the pictures we took of her and posting them soon.

Things to remember..

1. Call MJC about transcripts

2. Need fabric for Mei Tai straps

3. Return bottles to Babies R Us (I forgot I was going to go with the sampler pack)

4. Need to mail stuff off

5. Call Insurance about deductible.. (long story.. well a short one, but would rather not talk about it)

6. Should use up more fabric by sewing more pet and baby stuff!

This weekend started off a bit busy and some things have slipped my mind!

Omg.. Shoes..

More shoes!

Wow, I really like making these things!

So, since I’ve gotten my sewing machine “fixed,” I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect project. I know I want to make something for the baby. Maybe a bunch of stuff. Right now, I’m kind of stuck on wanting to make shoes. They’re really simple and I can practice my elastic sewing skills!

I’ll be sure to edit this post if I get something done! haha

EDIT: I guess I did get something done..

Totally not bad for my first pair! I plan to make more in different sizes and sell them. There’s already people showing interest!

Sewing Machine Meme~!

I know I wasn’t supposed to be talking about sewing, but apparently it’s Sewing Machine Month at www.sewmamasew.com . Which is kind of crazy! I just got a new sewing machine!

Before I start off, today I fixed my machine! When I first got it, I realized that the buttonhole push button didn’t go down at all and the dial with the “M” wouldn’t turn either, so I couldn’t zigzag or make buttonholes. No wonder that girl sold him to me for so cheap!

So this is what I ended doing:

Well, I needed to oil The Tank anyway, so I took him apart, and while I was doing that, I decided to figure out what was going on.

See that bit that’s sticking out? That was the culprit. I thought for sure the gears were stuck, but my dad pointed out that it could be pushed forward from the top and it was spring-loaded. It just needed to be aligned with the “M” dial’s mechanism or whatnot.

So now Tank is good as new! Zigzags and everything now! I just need to figure out the buttonholing part..

What brand and model do you have?

It’s a Morse, but not too sure about the model yet. It’s a Fotomatic ZigZag for sure, but it’s not exactly a II, which it could be, but not quite sure because the picture of the manual for that model differs from my machine.

How long have you had it?

I got him last month.

How much does that machine cost (approximately)?

$40 off Craigslist!

What types of things do you sew (i.e. quilting, clothing, handbags, home dec projects, etc.)?

I sewed a few burp cloths, started a cloth diaper, sewed a patch onto my dad’s leather Harley-Davidson vest, a bunch of pet pouches and hammocks, and started on other things too.

How much do you sew? How much wear and tear does the machine get?

I haven’t been sewing a whole lot lately, but plan too soon! I need to get some cloth diapers done for the gummy bear! It hasn’t seen too much wear and tear, but I have broken 4 needles already because I was being stupid.

Do you like/love/hate your machine? Are you ambivalent? Passionate? Does she have a name?

So far I love him! I’m very passionate about him and plan to get him some more buddies. It’s actually a male, and his name is The Tank.

What features does your machine have that work well for you?

It’s definitely a workhorse! Easy maintenance! Why bring it to a repair shop, when everything is so easily accessed and in plain view to fix yourself?

Is there anything that drives you nuts about your machine?

It was just the fact that I thought the zigzag and buttonhole mechanisms were broken. I’m still working out his bugs and figuring him out.

Do you have a great story to share about your machine (i.e., Found it under the Christmas tree? Dropped it on the kitchen floor? Sewed your fingernail to your zipper?, Got it from your Great Grandma?, etc.!)? We want to hear it!

Well, I kind of feel bad because I actually do have another sewing machine that I’ve had for about 4 or 5 years now. It’s the cheapie Brother machine from Walmart. I think they have a new model out now, though. That one’s been through a lot: My first sewing machine, dropped it a couple times, bent up, sewed through my fingernail before. I was thinking about selling it, but I might keep it for nostalgic purposes. It still works, but it’s nothing like The Tank, of course.

I just happened to find The Tank on Craigslist. I had been looking for a machine like this for years, but happened to see Flappergirl’s blog about her Morse, the week I moved back to California, and I renewed my search and  happened to find him for $40!

Would you recommend the machine to others? Why?

Heck yeah I would! If you are a serious sewer, this is the machine to get, or at least the same style. Not just for novelty (they come in pretty colors!), but also for function! These machines are workhorses and are made to last forever when taken care of. All their models are supposed to be easy to use, and their maintenance is obviously easy as well.

What factors do you think are important to consider when looking for a new machine?

If you sew a lot, get a machine that can take a lot.

Do you have a dream machine?

At the moment, it’s this one. I’m pretty sure we’re going to have a long and happy relationship.

It’s a GIRL, guaranteed!

That’s what this Chinese woman said to me at the tux rental place my brother was getting his tux for “anti-prom.”

That led to others saying, “Oh yeah! The way you’re carrying it, it’s definitely a girl!” Don’t get me wrong, I just want a healthy baby, but we can still dream about having a boy! Everything felt right to me. Jackalope and I were both pretty confident that it was a boy.

And we were right!!!!

What bothers me about WordPress

So far, it’s the fact that the window in which to post is very tiny! I just posted a photo heavy blog, and it was really hard to resize the pictures and really hard to see where the pictures where being posted on the blog (I had to bring one down from the top of the blog).

Anyway, I got plants yesterday. I needed them. A kalamansi tree(which I’m probably going to leave with my mom), lemon verbena, chocolate mint, pineapple mint, and I scored some free mint (although it’s a little ragged) off freecycle. I’m going to be replanting all of them today.

I also went to the local pet store here, and put some items on consignment. Hope they do well! I gave them 3 pouch and wonton sets, a pocket hammock, and a large hammock. If they do well, I’m going to probably upgrade to grommets for the hammocks. That should be fun!

Freecycle score!

I posted free pillows, diaper and formula coupons, and pregnancy and kids books (I narrowed down what I need at this point and passing them on to someone in need), and I scored a free dehydrator, bottle warmer, and mint!

I’m mostly excited about the dehydrator. Even though it’s an older model (Ronco 187), there’s so much you can do with them apparently! Basic uses are dehydrating fruits and vegetables, making beef jerky, and fruit roll-ups, but I had no idea I could proof bread and make yogurt with one! I can also make granola and dry herbs for tea!

I’m going to test run it tomorrow. If I actually do start using it on a regular basis, I’m going to save up for an upgrade for the fall. I’m looking at Excalibur’s food dehydrator. I had seen them before, but didn’t know the manufacturer was up in Sacramento! They have some pretty good specials too. I like the vegan/raw food special that comes with the teflex sheets for fruit jerky. Those are also pretty handy for liquidy foods and if I wanted to make croutons or bread crumbs.

Anyway, I also got blood drawn today and yet another urine sample. I’m wondering if I’m anemic. I have this horrible bruise on the side of my thigh that I got a while ago.. maybe just a few days ago.. from bumping into the printer table, and it’s just barely going away. I also scratched a scab from my leg and that bled a bit much. I can’t tell if I bruised myself from just scratching either.. I’m sure I’m okay.. but pregnancy is so weird.

Sewing aside…

Okay, I’m going to stop talking about sewing for the next couple post, or until I actually finish a couple diapers.

Right now, I shall post what Jackalope sent me!

Tiger and Giraffe from Melissa & Doug

These guys are super cute and have really detailed features. Their faces are kind hard and sculpted, but the rest of their bodies are soft for cuddling!

Panda Bear from Melissa & Doug

While not as realistic as his 2 friends, this guy is super soft all over! He replaced my boyfriend pillow (you know those pillows with the arms?). That’s how awesome he is. He’s also got awesome paws!

Here’s a fish market montage:
